Sustainable Luxury: The Natural Fibers Behind VERDI

At VERDI, luxury and sustainability are not in tension — they are the same thing. The studio holds to a single belief: that exceptional, sustainable craft is today's ultimate luxury. That conviction begins with the raw material itself, in a palette of natural fibers drawn from Colombian and Latin American land and woven entirely by hand.
Fique, the foundation
VERDI's language begins with fique, a fiber drawn from an agave native to the Colombian Andes and sustainably harvested in Curití, Santander. Rapidly renewable and hand-harvested, fique offers structure and an earthen character while keeping the studio's footprint light. It is the anchor from which every other material extends.
A palette of natural fibers
Around fique, VERDI weaves a wider vocabulary of natural materials, each chosen for its character and its origin:
- Alpaca and baby alpaca. Soft, warm, and luminous, prized for comfort and a refined hand.
- Plantain fiber and yaré. Native materials — yaré an Amazonian vine root — that bring rare texture to bespoke pieces.
- Cumare, palma de seje, organic silk, wool, and horsehair. Specialty fibers reserved for the studio's most distinctive weaves.
The earthen and the luminous
These natural fibers are intertwined with copper, stainless steel, and gold- and silver-plated threads — the studio's signature contrast, and the foundation of every VERDI weave. Sustainability here is not a limitation on beauty but a source of it: the honesty of natural fiber is precisely what makes the glint of metal so striking.
A dialogue between territories
Increasingly, VERDI weaves a conversation between Latin American materials. A recent rug unites Peruvian alpaca bouclé, cumare fiber from the Colombian Amazon, and copper from Chile — three South American countries hand-woven into a single Colombian piece. It is sustainability understood not only as sourcing, but as a way of honoring the land and its makers.
Craft that lasts
Made entirely by hand and sustainably sourced, a VERDI piece is woven to endure — and to be passed on. In a world of the disposable, that permanence is perhaps the truest luxury of all: proof that exceptional craft and respect for the earth can, and should, be the same pursuit.
