Inside VERDI's Bogotá Atelier | Colombian Craftsmanship
Every VERDI piece begins in the same place: a working atelier in Bogotá where the sound of manual looms fills the air. This is the heart of the studio — not a factory, but a living workshop where close to fifty master weavers transform natural fiber into rugs, textiles, and objects entirely by hand. To understand a VERDI piece is to understand the room it comes from.
A living workshop
The Bogotá atelier is where heritage and innovation meet daily. Here, artisans work fique, alpaca, plantain fiber, yaré, and organic silk on manual looms, interweaving them with copper and steel. Nothing is automated. Each rug, wall panel, and handbag is built stitch by stitch, carrying the time and attention of the hands that made it — a process visitors can experience firsthand at the studio's Tree of Life centerpiece.
The hands behind the work
VERDI's weavers are the soul of the studio. Their mastery spans techniques refined over years — vertical weaving, crochet in metal thread, and traditional motifs like the pineapple and seashell weaves. It was this same craft knowledge that VERDI's founding weaver, Carlos Vera Dieppa, drew on in the 1990s, and that his son Tomás Vera has carried forward since founding the studio in his father's honor.
Where tradition evolves
The atelier is also a design lab. Under Tomás Vera's direction, it is a place of continual experiment — where natural fibers are woven with copper and stainless steel to explore light, rhythm, and structure. Sculptural works such as La Macorina were born here, alongside commissions for Cartier, Fendi, and Amangiri. It is the embodiment of a conviction Tomás inherited: that tradition is a starting point, never a limit.
Rooted in Colombian territory
What runs through the atelier is Colombia itself — its fibers, its color, its memory. The fique arrives from Curití, Santander; the techniques descend from generations of Colombian craft. Every piece that leaves the Bogotá atelier carries that territory with it, out into homes and galleries around the world.
An invitation
The atelier is open to those who wish to see craft up close — to watch the weaving process unfold and stand before the studio's Tree of Life. It is the clearest expression of what VERDI believes: that exceptional, sustainable craft is today's ultimate luxury.
